50-Point Technical SEO Audit Checklist

Use this eight-page checklist to run a repeatable technical review of a site. Its 50 checks cover crawl access, indexing, on-page basics, internal links, Core Web Vitals, mobile usability, structured data, and security. Each row says what a pass looks like and labels the fix priority. Record affected URLs, an owner, and the next action in the notes area, then verify fixes with a fresh crawl or the relevant Google report. The checklist is a working guide; it does not replace a crawl, field data, or editorial judgment.

What you get

  • 50 checks across 8 technical categories
  • A pass criterion and fix priority for each check
  • Space for affected URLs, owner, and next action
  • A fix-order reminder and official-source pointers

Who it's for: SEO professionals, in-house marketers, and agency account managers running site audits.

What this checklist is

The 50-Point Technical SEO Audit Checklist is an eight-page PDF for running a repeatable technical review of a website. Each check states what a pass looks like and carries a Critical, High, Medium or Low priority, so the output is a ranked list of fixes rather than a pile of warnings.

What is inside, section by section

Crawling and access: the homepage resolves cleanly to the intended host, robots.txt is reachable, important paths are not blocked, internal links use crawlable HTML hrefs, there are no redirect loops or orphaned priority pages, and the XML sitemap is valid and listed in robots.txt.

Indexing and canonicals: priority pages carry no unintended noindex, canonical targets are correct, accessible and indexable, the sitemap lists canonical URLs that resolve without a redirect, protocol, host, slash and query variants consolidate, and Search Console coverage is sampled.

On-page basics: unique titles, a visible H1, accurate snippet text, main content that renders without interaction, a declared language and useful image alternatives.

Internal links: discoverable priority pages, descriptive anchors, no broken links or long redirect chains, working pagination and breadcrumbs that match the hierarchy.

Core Web Vitals: field LCP, INP and CLS at the 75th percentile, the actual LCP element and its load path, unexpected layout shifts and long tasks.

Mobile usability: a responsive viewport, readable text, usable controls, no horizontal overflow, working forms and media that respects width.

Structured data: markup that matches visible content, appropriate types, required properties, no invented ratings or reviews, and errors triaged with an owner.

Security and monitoring: consistent HTTPS redirects, investigated server errors, a crawl after each release and a dated change log.

How to use it

Run a crawl first and have Search Console and field data open, because many checks ask what the data shows rather than what you assume. Record affected URLs, an owner and the next action on the findings lines for each section. The checklist closes with a fix-order reminder: Critical first, then High, Medium and Low. Verify each fix with a fresh crawl or the relevant Google report. It is a working guide and does not replace a crawl, field data or editorial judgment.

Who it is for

SEO professionals, in-house marketers and agency account managers who audit sites, and anyone preparing for a migration or relaunch who needs a pre-flight list.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the checklist have exactly 50 checks?
It groups the technical checks that most often block crawling, indexing and usability into eight sections. It is a practical set, not an exhaustive list of everything that can go wrong.
Which tools do I need?
A site crawler, Google Search Console, and a source of field Core Web Vitals data where your site has enough traffic. The checks name the data to look at, not specific vendors.
In what order should I fix problems?
Follow the priority labels: Critical, then High, Medium and Low. Recrawl after each batch of fixes to confirm they worked.
