What this tool measures
Meta tags tell search engines and social platforms how to describe a page. This generator builds the title, description, keywords, Open Graph and Twitter Card tags from a few fields and shows a search-result preview, so you can check length and wording before you paste the code into your page head.
The tags it writes are standard HTML. Values you type are escaped so quotes and angle brackets cannot break the markup.
How to read each field
- Page Title
- The headline shown in search results and browser tabs. Aim to keep it under about 60 characters so it is not cut off, and lead with the topic of the page.
- Meta Description
- The summary that may appear under the title. The counter shows how close you are to 160 characters. Write it as a plain, specific description of what the page offers.
- Keywords
- Optional, comma-separated. Major search engines do not use the keywords tag for ranking, so treat it as a note for your own records.
- Page URL
- The full address of the page, used for the canonical-style Open Graph URL and shown in the preview.
- Generated code
- Title, description, keywords, og:title, og:description, og:url, og:type and the Twitter Card tags. Copy it into the head of the page.
Worked example
For a plumber's emergency repair page, a title like "Emergency Plumber in Leeds | 24-Hour Call-Out" is about 45 characters and names both service and place. A description such as "Burst pipe or no hot water? Our Leeds plumbers can reach most homes the same day. See what we cover and how to book." is under 160 characters and gives a reason to click.
Paste both into the generator with the page URL and copy the output into the head. Then check the page in Search Console after it is crawled; search engines may still rewrite the snippet if they judge another passage better matches the query.
Limits to keep in mind
- The preview is an approximation. Search engines choose their own title and snippet and may change them.
- The tool does not publish anything. You must add the tags to your site or CMS yourself.
- Every page needs its own title and description. Reusing one set across pages weakens both.
Frequently asked questions
How long should a title tag be?
Around 60 characters keeps most titles from being truncated in results, though the real limit depends on pixel width. Put the key topic first.
Do meta keywords help SEO?
Google has said it does not use the keywords meta tag for ranking. You can leave it empty without harm.
Why does Google show a different description?
Search engines may replace your description with text from the page if it matches the search better. A clear, accurate description still gives you the best chance of being used.
